Press Release: 17th Annual Heirloom Tomato Transplant Sale Sponsored by the Women's Club of Ramsey There will be a large variety of Heirloom tomato plants offered as well as a limited offering of some Heritage Hybrid varieties, the most famous of which is the Ramapo Tomato. This variety was known as the “true Jersey tomato” 30 years ago and has not been commercially available for years. Farmer Rich will also be offering the Moreton variety, which also was a favorite Jersey tomato and often referred to as the "4th of July" tomato.
There will also be a great selection of herb, eggplant, squash, cucumber artichokes & pepper plants in addition to the tomato transplants. These are grown by Susan & Richard Sisti of Catalpa Ridge Farm and as of this time, they have more than 90 different varieties of heirloom tomato plants growing to be offered at the sale on May 18th. Some old-standby varieties such as Pink & Yellow Brandywine, Rutger's and Yellow Pear will continue to be offered. Many new varieties have been added this year, such as Gold Medal, Rosso Sicilia, Moonglow and Paul Robeson to name a few. Preorders will be accepted prior to the sale to be picked up during the day of the sale.
